What’s new for eRA?
May 2019
Communiqué Awards: eRA highly commended for clear strategic objectives
The eRA programme was submitted for appraisal at the 2019 Communiqué Awards in the category ‘Excellence in Integrated Non-Promotional Communications’, which recognises initiatives that deliver effective communications with clear benefits for stakeholders, with an emphasis on positive impact on patient care or delivery of care. The Communiqué Awards programme commends excellence and best practice in healthcare communications world-wide. It is a benchmark of excellence to help shape future thinking and champion the highest possible standards in health care.
On this occasion, the eRA programme did not

win a Communiqué Award, but it scored 6.6/10 in the category audience focus and 6.2/10 in the category strategic objectives (with 7.5 being the highest score achieved in these categories). The judges applauded the very detailed and well-thought-out nature of the programme. They also remarked that eRA will likely be a much stronger entry next year when the roll-out of the programme is well underway and there will be evidence for and measurements of successful outcomes against specified objectives. This highlights the importance of measuring the reach and impact of eRA by collecting feedback from the international rheumatology community at meetings and via the web platform.

eRA activities at EULAR
There were a wealth of eRA-related activities at EULAR this year, designed to engage the wider rheumatology community in conversations about the eRA programme, demonstrate the eRA tools, and obtain feedback on eRA for the publication.
Three ‘Meet the expert’ on-stand seminars were delivered by members of the eRA Steering Committee: Prof. Andrea Rubbert-Roth, Prof. Zoltán Szekanecz and Prof. Mart van de Laar. These were well-received by attendees, involved lively discussion of the eRA multi-disciplinary team training exercise, and helped us spread the word of the eRA programme to health care professionals across Europe
•   The Steering Committee’s abstract (SAT0687) describing the eRA programme’s approach to disseminating the eRA tools across Europe was accepted for a poster presentation. The eRA abstract is accessible via this link

•   Delegates who visited the stand tried out the eRA tools and demo versions of the eRA patient infographic and web-platform. They provided their feedback on the programme and tools using the eRA survey and many took home a USB containing the eRA tools

Professor Gerd Burmester presented the eRA poster (SAT0687)

The Meet the expert sessions at EULAR generated a lot of interest in the eRA programme and provided an opportunity for delegates to see the eRA tools in action

eRA web-platform launch
The launch of the first country-specific eRA web-platform pages in the UK and in Spain is an important step forward in the evolution of the eRA programme. The eRA web-platform gives the wider rheumatology community easy access to the eRA tools. The local pages host information on the eRA programme, as well as translated and downloadable eRA tools. From now on, more health care professionals will be able to benefit from the eRA resources. Additional local pages in German, French, Dutch, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Danish, Croatian, Slovak, Slovenian,

Czech, Hungarian and Estonian are currently under development.

What’s next for eRA?
eRA publication
As part of our ongoing activities to raise awareness of eRA across Europe, we plan to submit a manuscript on the eRA programme for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
The outline of the eRA publication has been developed by the eRA Steering Committee. The publication is set to detail the following aspects of the eRA programme:
•   The manuscript will give a detailed overview of the eRA objectives, to enhance scientific knowledge and improve patient care by developing practical tools that address unmet needs in clinical practice
•   It will describe how the eRA Steering Committee prioritised contemporary unmet needs in RA management and conceived and developed practical tools to address these needs

•   It will then provide a comprehensive overview of the available eRA tools, and how they can be adapted to the educational and contextual needs of each national healthcare system
•   Importantly, the manuscript will include all metrics acquired to date, for example through surveys at EULAR or the eRA web-platform
A first draft for submission is currently underway.
Thank you for your support of the eRA programme and your continued interest in its development and dissemination. We will send out another Newsletter soon to keep you informed.
